How to estimate your incline bench 1RM
Incline bench estimates depend on the bench angle, grip width, touch point, and whether the set was paused or touch-and-go. Use the same incline angle every time or the estimate will track setup changes instead of pressing strength.

For incline bench, use the formula spread as the confidence signal. Tight spread means the set is probably useful; wide spread means the input was too high-rep, too technical, or too inconsistent.
What is a good incline bench 1RM?
These bodyweight multiples assume a 30-45 degree barbell incline bench with a consistent touch point and controlled descent. A higher angle shifts the lift toward strict pressing and usually lowers the number.

Incline bench 1RM notes
- Record the bench angle because 30 degrees and 45 degrees are not the same lift.
- Use the same pause or touch-and-go standard you plan to program.
- Be conservative when shoulder position or bar path changes late in the set.
Incline bench usually sits below flat bench because the shoulder angle reduces the contribution from the strongest flat-bench setup. A rough starting check is 75-85% of flat bench 1RM, but body structure and specialization can move that range.
High-rep incline sets often fail from shoulder and triceps fatigue before they describe a true one-rep limit. A hard set of four to eight clean reps is a better input than a loose set of twelve.
If incline bench is an accessory lift, do not let an aggressive estimate drive the whole week. Use the estimate to keep progression organized while leaving flat bench, overhead press, and shoulder recovery room to move.
Programming with your incline bench 1RM
Use the estimated max to choose a conservative training max before writing the block. For most healthy adult lifters, 90-95% of estimated 1RM is enough. If the set was high-rep, grindy, or technically inconsistent, use 85-90% instead.
