How to estimate your Romanian deadlift 1RM
Romanian deadlift estimates require a strict range of motion. The lift should start from the top, keep the bar close, maintain a controlled hinge, and stop at the same depth each rep without bouncing or turning into a conventional deadlift.

What is a good Romanian deadlift 1RM?
These bodyweight multiples assume a controlled barbell Romanian deadlift with a soft knee bend and no floor reset. Straps, tempo, and depth change the meaning of the number.

Romanian deadlift 1RM notes
- Use controlled reps with the same bottom position every time.
- Track straps and no-straps estimates separately if grip changes the result.
- Avoid using touch-and-go momentum or shortened range reps as 1RM inputs.
The Romanian deadlift is usually trained for posterior-chain volume rather than true singles. That makes the calculator a load-management tool, not a reason to test a maximal hinge every block.
RDL estimates can inflate when the bottom position gets higher across reps. If the first rep reaches mid-shin and the last rep stops above the knee, the set did not use one movement standard.
Program RDLs from the lowest estimate that still lets you keep position. The goal is repeatable tension and controlled range of motion, not proving that the deadlift max can be approximated with a looser hinge.
Programming with your Romanian deadlift 1RM
Use the estimated max to choose a conservative training max before writing the block. For most healthy adult lifters, 90-95% of estimated 1RM is enough. If the set was high-rep, grindy, or technically inconsistent, use 85-90% instead.
